My Own Initial Theory Of An Unconscious And Conscious...

In this section, I will report the results of my survey, compare, and contrast them to my own initial theory leanings. A screen shot of the results is in Figure 1. My psychodynamic score is 68% with sub-scores of 83% Psychoanalysis, 63% Analytical and 58% Individual Psychology. My Cognitive-Behavior Score is 87% with sub-scores of 93% Behavioral, 96% REBT, 100% Congnitive-Behavioral and 61% Reality therapy. My Existential Humanist Score is 77% with sub-scores of 65% Existential, 85% Person-Centered and 83% Gestalt. My PostModern Score is 61% with sub-scores of 71% Narrative and 51% Solution-Focused. As stated in the Psychodynamic section of our textbook, â€Å"†¦they all suggest that an unconscious and conscious affect the functioning of the person in some deeply personal and â€Å"dynamic† ways. They all look at early child-rearing practices as being important in the development of personality. They all believe that examining the past, and they dynamic interaction of the past with conscious and unconscious factors, are important in the therapeutic process.† (Neukrug, 2010) My personal theory follows these same ideas. I believe deeply that we are a combination of genetics and experiences. Our experiences greatly influence our development. The effect of those experiences can be at a conscious or unconscious level. A Feminist Reading of The Awakeningnbsp;nbsp; The Awakening is not new to me. However, in the class when I read it before the instructor refused to entertain a feminist criticism. The theory presented was that Edna knew what kind of man she was marrying and all these things she went through: her friendship with Madame Reisz leaving the house, entertaining her friends at the party, her situation with Robert and Arobin were all selfish efforts toward the ultimate freedom which is death. I feel Chopin faults Leonce as much as Edna for Ednas problems. He is a cold fish. He is controlling and he puts on a show for friends and neighbors proving he is a model husband which he is not. He is Creole and I think Edna, being as reserve†¦show more content†¦Her search for freedom builds and destroys relationships. She befriends people and then chooses to ignore them. Her final big party is her final farewell. She brings out all the sensuousness that her reserve had kept her from expressing and enjoying. Everything pleasing to the senses is there for her guests. There are colors, textures, tastes, and sounds for the senses to luxuriate. But all this sensory enhancements doesnt keep her attention. She feels the same old ennui, and the party shortly thereafter breaks up. Of course, all this meets with Leonce disapproval. His concern is not about his wifes mental or emotional health, but rather, what people will say. To experience freedom of the soul Edna has no choice but to return to the sea. It is the only thing capable of giving her the emotional security and sensual satisfaction at the same time. She goes to it and allows it to claim her. Like many of Chopins stories, The Awakening ends in a death. Chopin apparently sees death as the ultimate freedom. No matter what we do as women in this world we are always restricted in our movements by some facet of our lives. While Chopin tries to speak for women, I think this premise that our lives are restricted also applies to men. There may not be as many restrictions but they are there. Immigration has been an ongoing event in America since the start of this country. America used to allow immigrants from all over the world to freely come into the country because back when United States was just starting out there was so much land to settle on. After the civil war happened more laws were starting to pass to regulate the amount of immigrants that would come into the United States. Once World War 1 began immigration slowed down because it was harder to travel out of the country. However, right after it ended immigration became a lot heavier and new laws had to be passed. One of the laws that were passed was called National-Origins Quota System, which basically said that there was a specific quota that needed to be met for each nationality of immigrants to come into the United States. Over the next years immigration slowed down a bit, and then in 1986 congress passed an act called Immigration Reform and Control Act. One of the biggest parts of this act was enforcement to prevent illegal admission into the United States. The act banned hiring and harboring illegal immigrants. However, because of poor enforcement this act did not really succeed.
